Saints Cyril and Methodius
When these missionary brothers first began evangelizing the Slavic peoples of southeastern Europe, they ran into more than a few roadblocks. One of them being that the Slavonic language spoken by the people had no written alphabet. This would’ve normally hindered the translation of liturgical texts and Biblical books, but the brothers would not be deterred, and instead set out to develop a new alphabet so that their mission could continue.
This new alphabet eventually became known as Cyrillic, and is still used in Slavic speaking countries today.
May we be as zealous and determined in our evangelism as the Apostles to the Slavs, SS. Cyril and Methodius.
Saints Cyril and Methodius, pray for us.
