Jeremiah 4
Even after God accusing the people of literal and symbolic adultery, he calls them to return to him. To put away all their unfaithfulness and to return to him and he’d take them back into his arms. But he also warns that if they fail to heed these final warnings that they’d be invaded by a foreign army and destroyed.
1 Peter 4
Peter says to stay away from the wild lifestyle of the pagans around them, but to be aware that when they discover that the Christians are avoiding the wild parties out of a sense of right and wrong it will cause a backlash, but it’s worth it. The still happens to this day. When we are approached by someone and offered something that you’re morally opposed to, they don’t take it well in most cases, and sometimes will have a reaction as if the rejection of sin is a rejection of the person themselves. Sin gets so attached to a person that they can subconsciously identify with the sin as a part of them in some cases.
Peter reminds them that the gifts we have been given are a grace from God and we need to be stewards of these graces and gifts. We need to use our gifts and talents in the service of God and his church.
