Catholic Mass and Coronavirus

In many places around The United States, and the world, the public celebration of the Mass has been canceled, or those from high risk categories have been dispensed from their Sunday obligation to attend the Holy Sacrifice of The Mass. In my diocese, the Diocese of Phoenix, there’s been several changes to the way the liturgy is celebrated, but as of today there’s been no plan to cancel the public celebration of Masses.

I’m writing this now, about one hour before I attend the 11AM Mass at my parish, to let you all know that I am praying for everyone of you, and that I am offering up my communion to all those that are desiring to receive the Eucharist in the liturgy today, but due to circumstances outside their control, are not able to.

In these trying times we all need to cling to God even more tightly than before. There’s been many diseases and plagues in the history of the Church, and they all eventually abated, mostly through the prayers and petitions of the people of God. Covid-19 will be no different. We will overcome this current threat through the shed blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pray, hope, and don’t worry.
