The Bible In A Year: Day 239

Readings:
2 Chronicles 31-32
Sirach 30
1 Corinthians 14

1 Corinthians 14

Paul is saying here that even though love is the most important spiritual gift, it’s not the only important spiritual gift, and that while we should strive to love all and practice loving like Christ loves his church, we should also employ the other gifts given to each of us for the edification of the church.

Paul calls for order in public settings and offers some practical advice that gifts that benefit only the person they’re given to should be exercised with discretion in public so as not to be a distraction to public worship, but gifts like prophecy that benefit others should be exercised more liberally.

Tomorrow’s Readings:
2 Chronicles 33
Sirach 31
1 Corinthians 1
