The Bible In A Year: Day 202

Readings:
Isaiah 53-56
Proverbs 24

Isaiah 53-56

This chapter is famous for being so clearly about Jesus and his suffering for us. Something very particular about these ‘suffering servant’ prophecies is the doctrine of vicarious atonement that’s so clearly being stated here and will be expanded upon by the New Testament writers to explain the passion of Our Lord and its effects for us.

It’s amazing in hindsight to read Isaiah 53 and see so apparently the life and death of Jesus of Nazareth. Fro, the description of him to the effects of his death as an offering for sin, it really brings tears to my eyes to read through this and be thankful that he died for me.

God promises many good things to the people after their momentary sufferings that will come during the evil, and the greatest of these is the Holy One who will draw peoples from all over the world. A common thread in all these promises is that they will be free of charge and a gift from God to his people, this is how the offer of salvation still works to this day.

Readings:
Isaiah 57-58
Proverbs 25
Romans 14
