Isaiah 46-48
God reminds them that the gods of the surrounding nations are lifeless idols. They’re statues of bronze or silver, clay or wood, but they have no life in them. They’re things, not beings, and they cannot save. But God will prove himself and his power by delivering Israel after they’ve been decimated.
After a prophecy against Babylon for their own cruelty and wickedness, God reminds the people through the words of this prophet that this coming punishment is not without reason. He also laments that they didn’t just keep his commandments because things could’ve been different than they are now, but they rebelled and here we are.
Even with all the gloom there’s always a glimmer of hope, and a promise of return to try again.
