Readings:
Isaiah 23
Proverbs 13
Romans 4:13-25
Paul continues his discussion of Abraham’s faith. Not only is justification brought about by faith, but so is the realization of God’s promises. He says that not only was the faith of Abraham the cause of his justification in the eyes of God, but that the promises he had been given by God were also realized because Abraham believed God.
He was almost 100 years old, and his wife had been barren for decades since they first were married, but he knew that if God promised it to him then it would come to pass. He had no idea how this would happen, but he only believed that it would happen, and that’s what was important.
Paul points out that this passage from Genesis was written down not only for Abraham but for our benefit. So we could see that he was justified by faith, and we could strive to live lives of faith like our father in faith, Abraham.
