The Bible In A Year: Day 181

Readings:
Isaiah 8-9
Proverbs 6

God gives Isaiah a sign, that before his newborn child learns to speak, the nation of Israel and Syria will be defeated and despoiled by the Assyrians. But also because the people of Judah didn’t trust in God to deliver them, he’s going to cause Assyria to be their new enemy.

Isaiah berates the people for seeking knowledge and comfort from soothsayers and mediums when he is speaking to them directly from God. Why do they turn to these practitioners of magic?

Chapter 9 is mostly another prophecy about how the righteous will not be completely wiped out with the wicked when Judah is chastised for their sins, but a remnant will remain and they’ll see the coming of a king that far surpasses every one that came before him. This is a prophecy of Jesus and his eternal kingship.

Tomorrow’s Readings:
Isaiah 10
Proverbs 7
Jude 1
